Meet Principal McMillan
Before joining the New Hingham community in 2018, Mr. McMillan served as a middle school English teacher and principal intern at Pittsfield Public Schools. Prior to that, he taught high school English in Springfield and Adams.

Mr. McMillan believes in the power educators possess to make young learners feel safe, supported, accepted, celebrated, valued, important, and loved. He often quotes Maya Angelou who once said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” It is his belief that the combination of high-quality academic instruction and positive relationships with students is the foundation for success. He believes that each member of the school community must play an active role as teacher and learner, leader and follower, and speaker and listener. In turn, this shared responsibility will lead to a collective effort that is focused on increasing the impact of learning.

Mr. McMillan has taken advantage of growth opportunities with the intention of building his educational and experiential background in teaching and administration. He received two bachelors’ degrees in English and education from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 2014. Mr. McMillan returned to MCLA where he earned his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2016. After several years of teaching, he pursued a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership, which he obtained in 2018.

Outside of school, Mr. McMillan enjoys spending time with his partner, Jessica, and their Siberian huskies, Bella and Paige. He enjoys reading non-fiction, film photography, traveling, and cooking. Mr. McMillan lives in Chesterfield, MA.
