Jesse McMillan, Principal

Mr. McMillan has proudly served as the Principal of New Hingham Regional Elementary School since 2018. Before joining the Chesterfield/Goshen community, he served as a middle school English teacher in the Berkshires and high school English teacher in Springfield. He attended Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts where he earned a BA English, BS Education, and M.Ed. In addition, Mr. McMillan attended the Leadership Academy where he earned his administrative licensure.

Mr. McMillan believes in the power educators possess to make young learners feel safe, supported, accepted, celebrated, valued, important, and loved. He often quotes Maya Angelou who once said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

It is his belief that the combination positive relationships with students, high-quality academic instruction, and strong partnerships with families is the foundation for success. He believes that each member of the school community must play an active role as teacher and learner, leader and follower, and speaker and listener. In turn, this shared responsibility will lead to a collective effort that is focused on increasing the impact of learning.

Mr. McMillan has taken advantage of growth opportunities with the intention of building his educational and experiential background in teaching and administration. He has served as a school committee member and currently serves as an adjunct professor at Mass College of Liberal Arts.

Outside of school, Mr. McMillan enjoys reading, film photography, traveling, cooking, and spending time with his wife and daughter. Mr. McMillan lives a short drive from the school in Chesterfield, MA.
