Welcome to Ms. Paret's Counselor's Corner!
I am proud to be working in my fifth year as the school counselor at New Hingham Elementary School. I have the joy of working with students through classroom lessons, small group interventions, and individual counseling. I also collaborate with school staff and parents in order to best meet the needs of students.

Classroom Lessons: Choose to be NICE
This school year I am excited to work with classrooms in collaboration with Ms. Neal, implementing a new school-wide social-emotional curriculum, Choose to be Nice. Each month we focus on a new value that is introduced and reviewed through literature, discussions, and interactive activities. See link on this page for more information!
In addition, I teach classroom lessons, as needed, based on teacher consultation throughout the school year.

Small-Group Counseling
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing behavioral, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-10 members and usually meet once or twice a week for several weeks.

Lunch Bunch
Students at each grade level will have the opportunity to sign-up for Lunch Bunch throughout the school year. Students in these groups meet weekly or bi-weekly for several weeks where they eat their lunch with peers in the counseling classroom. In these groups, we play games and work on important social skills, such as taking turns, active listening, communication, and assertiveness. Older students have opportunities to share ideas for service projects and spirit activities to better their school environment and the surrounding community.

Individual Counseling
Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges.
